Now is the time to consider Martti's finances a little. He has returned from the Dragon Quest (which did not yield any medals for the nobles, as seen from the reports) and received lofty compensation from the two princes: a blue suit (WOS-A1, which Martti is not even entitled to wear due to not being a noble) and a GAGR most ancient gold ring. But while he was away...
Crypto Kingdom "legal tender" in which all things are priced, is Monero XMR. It is public knowledge that XMR is grossly undervalued as a currency and a revaluation of an order of magnitude is not a surprise for the informed. But when it actually starts to happen (XMR/EUR has risen 120% since Martti came to town), it does cause the need for revaluation in the game economy, because some things need to be implicitly priced in the outside world currency.
So Martti has managed to leverage his business with 2 loans. This is a good idea when the assets bought increase in value, but if the currency is revalued, the assets go down, and payback is more difficult. Martti's assets are geared to maximum yield, so they suffer the most in such a revaluation. (Collectibles that don't have a yield, are anyway priced in the market so might go up or down - and most were unchanged.)
It makes sense to make a presence in the IRC (##crypto-kingdom in freenode) every once in a while. To get the compensation for the quest (about $20 value in IRL terms (!)) he needed to address the quest leaders and remind them of the matter. The Marquess of Rome also granted a further 20 mil loan for tailor business, and the terms were left quite open. In fact, Martti feels quite satisfied with his accomplishments.
The consumables economy of the game functions so that Counties, Manors and Farms produce the goods, and NPCC accounts consume them. It is largely big money business, but there is one pocket of good profits that Martti intends to tap: tailors. The NPCC need a big quantity of suits and the suits also wear down rather fast. Martti's plan is to employ a largish number of tailors, whose produce would be sold at a profit. This is the purpose for which the M of Rome gave the 20 mil loan. Martti puts in lowball bids for entry-level tailors and strategically sells the suits at a good profit. The town only has one professional tailor business, who of course will naturally agree to a cartel. In addition, Labor will sell suits but that price is 1.6x the "book price" (estimate of the average which is used in the pricing of tailors).
The scheme has many risks, but they all are manageable, so Martti goes on with the bids. Having 29 mil in the account for the fleeting moment makes him think: "wish Dad was alive to see me now". The town coroner just announced that 35 of the townspeople (PC accounts) died this year, among them one Marquess and His Eminence David Cardinal Latapie, The Prince-Bishop d’Armagnac, Bishop of CryptoTown.
